Among the red rocks of Sedona, Sara recently participated in a conference where a nutritionist shared tips for longevity, called healthy hacks.
- To change a habit, or add one, a clear why must be established.
- Make your new habit your identity. I am a healthy sleeper; I eat to perform and move well.
- For your habits to succeed, they should be enjoyable; an activity you want to do and know the benefit.
- Habit changes need to be slow and steady. Don’t start multiple habits at once. Start a new habit and connect it to an existing one. For example, stretch 5 minutes per day before you get dressed.
- Plan and track your progress. Put your classes and activities on your calendar. Make it an appointment for yourself.
- The all or nothing mindset will sabotage your goals and progress. Use the 80/20 rule and stay consistent overtime. 80% of the time I am “at it”, if I’m off a day or so, that’s the 20% breather.
- Habit stacking will assure you are successful in ingraining a new habit into your lifestyle, such as placing an 8oz glass of water next to your bathroom sink to drink just after brushing your teeth in the morning. This start to your day gets you 1/10th to your goal of drinking 80 oz/day.
- Find a way to be accountable. Sign up for classes. Workout with a partner.
- Create a conducive environment. Choose a venue like Imagine that fits in with your personality and goals and makes you feel good.
Incorporating these habit hacks into your life can make it easier to build new health strategies into your daily routine and support a healthy approach to living longer.
